• Proverbs 9

Prov. 9:12 – “If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.”

Wisdom is not take-it-or-leave-it advice…

It pursues and commands. It stands, invites and confronts!

But there is another invite of Foolishness that goes out to those who are naïve, the people without sense, promising them something sweet and tasty. Accepting that invitation means not life but death.

In the Story of Israel, it is time and time again that they turn to trust in gods other than their God, the God (Yhwh). In times of trouble (financial, fertility, leadership, national security), they would not love Yhwh with all their heart, they would also trust in other gods, just in case.

But isn’t that how it goes? We say we are the Church indwelt with the Spirit, the people of God 2.0! I wonder why though we don’t fare much better than the people of God 1.0?

Foolishness can be masked as wisdom, and Foolishness also pursues, commands, stands, invites and confronts!

So are you Foolish or Wise? Take the Proverbs test:

When you get corrected, do you turn to abuse the other?
When you are rebuked, do you hurt the person back?
Do you find when you are corrected you have hate in you?
Or when you corrected, do you love the person for it?
When you are given direction, do you let it in?
Do you find yourself gaining from others teaching?
Is your ultimate source for Right and Wrong God?
Do you know God’s ways, God’s story, God’s vision?
For it is God who will give you abundant life!

We’re supposed to sift and test, but you’re right, some people just refuse to learn. They remind of 5-years olds who say, “You can’t tell me what to do. I’m big.” Sometimes when we try to act like big kids we fail to be adults.

Good test! My knee jerk reaction says I am foolish. Then as always (you know-eventually; sometimes days later-whenever I am quiet enough to hear) the comforting Whisper reminds me that because of the eternal resurrection life inside of me that I am made in His image, filled with His Spirit and part of His plan! Papa is changing me from the inside out. Thanks for the think!!!
