Prov. 22:1 – “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”
I have a secret nickname. It’s not bad, just silly. It started in high school and only a few long-time friends know it, but they still use it. Nicknames tend to stick around…
That’s why potential nicknames were a consideration when choosing our children’s names. But the most important factor when choosing each child’s name was its meaning.
And the starting letter…
You see, our kids have matching names. That’s right- three kids with the exact same initials. Sometimes it’s inconvenient, but it’s always distinctive. If the initials are J.T.T. he or she probably belongs to us- the Thompson family. It’s our mark.
God has his mark as well.
When we receive salvation, God marks us with his Holy Spirit. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus and are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, our lives become a witness for him. Even our names become associated with him when they are recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
A name recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life… Now that’s a good name!

So what’s your nickname???
Our son played Baseball at Vanguard U. Krista and I visited and asked around campus if people knew who and where Brian is… No one did. But when we asked, “What about Sparky?” Everybody knew.
